A small senior team for data too large to copy.
Stratoscale is a boutique geospatial data engineering consultancy. We make petabyte-scale climate, satellite and sensor archives queryable with SQL, directly in object storage — and we build the open-source engine that does it.
It started with one hard problem.
Making petabyte-scale climate and satellite data queryable with plain SQL, without copying it into a database first.
Solving it meant working deep in query engines, storage formats and cloud infrastructure — and that work became zarr-datafusion, our open-source engine.
Today we bring the same skills to teams sitting on large array datasets who need them in front of analysts and decision-makers — without standing up a warehouse or a large in-house data team.
What we believe
Senior people do the work.
The engineer you talk to on the first call is the one who builds your system.
Working results over slide decks.
We prove ideas with running code and real measurements.
Open standards, no lock-in.
We build on open formats and your chosen platforms, so you're never dependent on a vendor — or on us.
Your data stays with you.
We work inside your environment, with access you control.
Numbers you can defend.
Every recommendation comes with costs, trade-offs and stated assumptions.
Put us to the test on your data.
Where our experience comes from
- 14 years at the infrastructure layer
Distributed storage, query engines and large-scale data pipelines.
- Query engines & data formats
Built SQL engines in Rust on Apache Arrow and DataFusion; deep knowledge of Parquet, Iceberg and Zarr internals.
- Climate & satellite data at petabyte scale
Hands-on with ERA5, Sentinel and MODIS archives.
- Real-time systems
Market-data ingest and fan-out architectures designed and costed for up to 1M users.
Every engagement is led by a founder.
Jayendra Parmar
Jayendra has spent 14 years at the infrastructure layer — distributed storage, query engines and large-scale data pipelines. Jayendra created zarr-datafusion and leads every Stratoscale engagement from the first call to handover.
